The idea for Sentinel Buildings was founded in 1987 in Albion, Nebraska, where it remains today. Wayne Buller, founder of Sentinel, turned his basement into a small office in February of that year and began selling Quonset buildings over the telephone. "Our goal was to provide quality buildings at a reasonable price to small and medium builders," said Buller.
A year later, with the business growing, Mr. Buller decided to create his own private label, calling it Sentinel Building Systems. Originally a component and buy-out building, Sentinel made the move to engineering, fabrication, and inventory in 1993. On September 24, 1996, Sentinel shipped its 1000th building. Within a couple of years, the business outgrew the original plant capacity and plans were laid for an even bigger facility.
Sentinel moved into its current manufacturing plant in August 1997. Building number 2000 was sold in August, 1999. In June, 2000, Sentinel was officially sold to Global Industries, Inc. of Grand Island, Nebraska. Wayne Buller retired from Sentinel in March, 2002. Sentinel Building Systems continues to capitalize on Global's experience and financial strength by becoming a regional leader in all-steel buildings for agricultural and commercial use.
